The Under the Umbrella Artist Gallery is open only to local LGBTQIA2S+ artists.
The artist gallery is primarily an opportunity to spotlight the work of local queer artists, while providing a modest revenue stream to keep the bookstore profitable and sustainable. Our commission fee is 30%, meaning artists retain 70% of the sale. Artists set the price of their work, and may adjust their normal rate to accommodate our commission.
At this time, we can only accept 2D artwork, and all artwork must be installation ready.
March Gallery Theme: RESISTANCE - Palestinian Resistance and Solidarity
Over the past 100+ days, we have all witnessed the atrocities being committed against the Palestinian people livestreamed to our phones. The Palestinian people have experienced oppression for decades, and the people of the world are now calling for an end to the occupation and a free Palestine. We at Under the Umbrella believe that what is happening in Gaza affects us all. How does this affect you and your community? Are you learning anything about your community through the lens of this crisis? (Disclaimer: Humanitarian crises do not have to affect you personally for them to matter to you.)

Under the Umbrella is a bookstore dedicated to giving space and voice to the LGBTQIA2S+ community. We are only accepting art from queer artists. We will not do anything to confirm you are queer, but please only submit if you fall under the LGBTQIA2S+ umbrella. BIPOC and Palestinian artists will be prioritized during artist selection.
Artists may submit up to 3 works as a collection. We will select 3-5 artists depending on gallery space. We will have an adjudication committee who will be selecting artists. An application for adjudicators will be available soon - check @umbrellacafeslc.
Artists submitting multiple works should do so under one application form. Please label your images of works accordingly. Submissions must be completed works.
Works may be up for consignment if the artist chooses to do so. Artists set their own prices and will keep 70% of sales, not including any credit card fees.
Stay tuned for featured artwork.
