Return & Exchange Policy

Please review the following choices carefully. Refunds and returns can only be processed when eligible items are returned using the appropriate method. If your return is shipped or brought to the store after the timeframes indicated below, we regret that we cannot issue a refund or send the merchandise back to you. 


You may return your book or non-book item in its original condition for a full refund (excluding shipping costs) within 7 days of receiving your item, with proof of purchase.


  • All returned items must be in their original condition.

  • Shrink-wrapped or sealed products must be unopened. 

  • All non-book items must be returned with all original tags and/or packaging.

  • For pick-up orders placed online, the returns window begins when the customer is notified that their order is ready for pickup.

  • For gift returns, store credit will be issued.

  • Markdown books and other specified items on a case-by-case basis are nonrefundable.

  • Shipping fees are not refunded. For all returns, customers are responsible for the costs of return shipping. We recommend you use an insured and traceable method; we are not responsible for packages lost or damaged during the return transit.

  • Special order items that are not normally carried by Under the Umbrella Bookstore and have been ordered specifically at your request may not be returned or exchanged.

  • Returns and exchanges are not possible if an item is out of print or otherwise not salable (e.g., last year’s calendars, superseded editions).

  • Local consignment items are not eligible for returns due to the nature of our payment structure with consignees. It is the responsibility of the customer to determine in advance if an item is consignment and therefore not eligible for return.
