About the Event
Join Plumas Colectiva to celebrate the launch of Willy Palomo's debut collection of poetry Wake the Others. Half-memoir, half-biography, Wake the Others wrestles with the legacy of the Salvadoran Civil War. Blending lyric and narrative, Palomo traces his mother's childhood, war experiences, family separation, migration, and its aftermath. Political without sacrificing craft, confessional without navel-gazing, this debut collection of poetry guides readers through the quagmire of family secrets to a place where healing is possible.
Willy Palomo (he/they/she) is a founding member of Plumas Colectiva, a powerhouse of Latinx visual artists, writers, and creatives based in the 801. His debut collection of poetry Wake the Others is due from Editorial Kalina in August 2023. Published in April 2023, his debut rap project Enter Da BoomBow. Palomo is a veteran of the Salt Lake City poetry slam scene whose fiction, essays, poetry, and translations can be found print and web pages, including the Best New Poets 2018, Latino Rebels, The Wandering Song: Central American Writing in the United States.
This event is made possible in partnership with Utah Humanities as part of the annual Utah Humanities Book Festival.
