About the Event

Come celebrate the launch of Garden Comrades: A Queer Community Garden Oracle Deck.  Join us in a discussion with the creators who will speak to their understanding of the importance of queer stories in art as an act of resistance and love.

The 44 cards and associated guidebook feature unique characters, represented by garden organisms who embody change in their ways of being. The characters are intentionally funny, quirky, punny, witty, and endearing, in order to counteract some of the heaviness that conversations regarding systemic injustice and suffering often bring on. As these characters emerged and made themselves known to us, we sought to channel the wisdom of these creatures into a form that is both accessible and personal. This piece of art comes from two queer authors who live in diaspora and explore their own relationships to identity, body, community, food, and land throughout the writing. We present you with these genderfucked, juicy, wise, and flawed characters in hopes that it can serve you as a liberatory tool.

Content notice: Throughout the card descriptions there are references to sex, abuse, trauma, violence, depression, suicide, and systematic injustices.

The first 40 attendees will receive a free deck made possible by Salt Lake City Arts Council. Note that 30 decks and books are reserved for Queer BIPOC.

There will be herbal tea and treats catered by the Mobile Moon Coop.

We hope to see you there <3 ----
