Staff Picks
Under the Umbrella is on Ute, Goshute, Paiute, and Shoshone land. Acknowledging and honoring the traditional stewards of this land is important, but supporting the Indigenous communities whose lands have been stolen and colonized requires more than land acknowledgement. Each month, 5% of sales from Kaitlyn's "Staff Picks" will be donated to the Carry the Water Garden, an Indigenous healing garden in Salt Lake City. We encourage our white customers to support this and other Indigenous-led organizations here and around the so-called United States. Learn more about the traditional stewards of this land on our Land Acknowledgement page.
Community Curated Shelf
September's community curated shelf is curated by CJ Connor (he/they). CJ is the author of queer romances and cozy mysteries, including the Board Game Shop Mystery series. Active in both the writing and LGBTQIA+ communities, they are a mentor for Author Mentor Match, an EBSCO NoveList advisor, and a member of the Utah League of Writers. They are also the co-leader of a LGBTQIA employee affinity group and a contributor for Book Riot. When they are not writing, CJ Connor can be found perusing art museums, listening to angsty folk music, stress knitting, and attending weekly gatherings for board game enthusiasts with their husband, an amateur board game designer. They live in the Salt Lake City area with their dog, Yoda. Visit CJ Connor online at CJConnorWrites.com.
5% of sales from this month's shelf will go to The Out Foundation, whose mission is to support and empower the LGBTQ+ students and alumni of Brigham Young University in achieving their intellectual, social, and professional potential. This includes a transfer fund to support queer students to transferring to a different school.
